Mauritius Telecom Crowns Winner of National AI Video Contest

Mauritius Telecom has wrapped up its national AI Video Contest, an initiative that invited citizens across Mauritius and Rodrigues to use AI video-generation tools to imagine what the country could look like decades from now.

The Brief

Run in partnership with the Mauritius Film Development Corporation, the contest asked participants to produce short AI-assisted films envisioning "the Mauritius of tomorrow." It drew 157 entrants from across both islands — a strong turnout for a format that required contestants to get hands-on with generative AI tools rather than just talk about them.

The Winners

Gukhoul Shivam Singh took the top prize for "2070: A Letter From Tomorrow," earning an iPhone 17 and a cash prize of Rs 15,000. Vivek Binda placed second, with Shane Alvein Gokhool taking third.

Beyond the prizes, the contest doubles as a low-stakes way of putting AI tools directly into residents' hands — the kind of grassroots exposure that tends to matter as much as top-down strategy documents when it comes to building a country's day-to-day AI literacy.
